To dig in Dig & Clean, equip a shovel, approach a buried target, use the interaction shown for your device, and keep working until the dirty object is free for cleaning. The official game description confirms that targets contain dirty junk and buried treasure. Current walkthroughs add one crucial progression rule: some targets can be too strong for your equipped shovel, so choosing a workable object is part of digging well.
Prepare before the first target
Open Gear and confirm which shovel is equipped. Do not assume the tool you just viewed or purchased became active automatically; current footage shows an explicit equipped state. Look at the nearby field and choose a target close enough that you can watch feedback without adding travel to the test.
Use the action prompt shown by Roblox. The experience supports Mobile, Tablet, PC, and Console, and no official fixed control chart is published here. On touch, keyboard/mouse, or controller, the goal is the same: keep the correct target selected and remain within the valid interaction area.
Read target feedback
Normal progress
Continue until the dirty object comes free. Note how long the target takes with the current shovel.
Target is too strong
Stop, choose an easier nearby target, and compare shovel requirements or displayed stats in Gear.
Interaction stops
Reposition, reacquire the target, and check that the shovel remains equipped before blaming power.
Colored marker
Treat it as a current detector or target signal until the revealed Collection entry proves the final item and rarity.
The strong-target message is not a timing challenge. Repeatedly pressing the same action does not change the equipped shovel’s capability. A nearby easy cluster is more productive than spending a session against an inaccessible object.
Use a clean excavation route
Start near Gear or another landmark you can relocate. Sweep a small cluster rather than zigzagging across the island. Work one target to completion, move the dirty object into the cleaning flow, and then take the next target. If carrying or cleaning starts to queue, stop digging and clear the backlog.
Community videos show later routes with boats, island structures, Sphinx scenery, and colored vertical beams over possible targets. Those visuals are useful for orientation but do not prove a universal best location or guaranteed item. Compare a new area only when the shovel can work its targets consistently.
Measure shovel improvement correctly
Use two comparable targets in the same area and server. Record shovel name, displayed stat or power label, approximate dig time, any strength failure, and the resulting dirty object. Change only the shovel when possible. A faster result on a smaller or weaker target does not establish the tool’s full improvement.
Do not use sale value or rarity as the excavation benchmark. Those belong to the revealed item, and a lucky find can make a slow shovel look profitable. First measure access and dig time; then measure the whole money farming loop separately.
Decide when a shovel upgrade is due
Upgrade when a required or useful cluster repeatedly refuses the current shovel, when digging clearly dominates the full loop, or when the live card shows an affordable improvement you can use immediately. Stay with the current shovel when cleaning, travel, or selling is already the slower step.
Current community guides recommend skipping some neighboring small upgrades in favor of a larger jump. That advice is Community reported and depends on current prices and stats. Compare the visible card and your balance. The Shovel List provides the fields to record, while the Upgrade Guide turns them into a purchase choice.
Separate digging from detection and rarity
A detector category and colored markers appear in multiple current walkthroughs. The videos associate stronger preparation and target markers with rare-item hunting. The official description does not explain detector rules, so never treat a beam color as the final rarity or a guarantee.
Dig the target, clean the find completely, and open Collection. The revealed record is where identity belongs. If you are hunting Omega, keep location, marker color, shovel, boost state, and result in the same note; do not convert a small sample into exact odds.
Recover from common digging problems
If every nearby target is too strong, return to the starter cluster or Gear instead of wandering farther. If a target appears usable but no progress occurs, check range, equipped tool, server responsiveness, and whether another interaction state is active. If the dirty item seems stuck, step away, reapproach, and use the visible prompt; rejoin only after ordinary controls also fail.
If the island is crowded, pick another small cluster or a fresh server. Do not assume another player caused a permanent item loss. If a new area is inaccessible, use the live unlock message as the authority; community names and screenshots do not replace the requirement.
Send every finished dig into a decision
A freed dirty object is not the end. Carry it to cleaning, reveal it, and check Collection when it is new or unusual. Then decide museum or Sell. Digging more objects while earlier finds remain unidentified can hide which area and target produced each result.
Use How to Clean Items for the next step and Locations when you want to compare areas without confusing rare luck with reliable progress.
